The one-day flower blooms white in the break of day and gradually becomes pink to die fuschia at the end of the day. This photo was taken the following morning.
Here is a poem that reminded me of that flower:
Time and Eternity
Essential oils are wrung
LXV
ESSENTIAL oils are wrung:
The attar from the rose
Is not expressed by suns alone,
It is the gift of screws.
The general rose decays;
But this, in lady’s drawer,
Makes summer when the lady lies
In ceaseless rosemary.
Emily Dickinson (1830–86)
